The Pukehina site offers everything a coastal home should — open sky, salt-laced breezes, and an unbroken view to the sea. It also brings everything that tests a building: intense UV, airborne salt, and beachfront exposure the Bay of Plenty doesn't apologise for.
JMAC Architecture responded with a home that doesn't fight its environment. Simple, horizontal forms settle into the dune landscape rather than rising above it. Large openings connect interior spaces directly to the ocean, while solid walls turn away from the prevailing wind. Timber soffits bring warmth to the threshold, and durable Nu Wall aluminium cladding wraps the exterior in a finish that will hold its clarity long after a painted or timber surface would have demanded attention.
This is a home designed for generations of use not just the first summer.
