At the heart of the community.
Every community has places that become part of its identity. For generations, the Whangamatā Surf Life Saving Club has supported those who protect the coastline while bringing together members, volunteers and visitors through a shared connection to the sea. Rather than replacing the building, the project focused on extending its life for the decades ahead. The reclad strengthens the club's presence on the beachfront, introducing a contemporary architectural expression while respecting the role it continues to play within the community.
A restrained material palette, crisp detailing and carefully considered proportions give the building renewed confidence without losing the familiarity that makes it such an enduring part of Whangamatā.
